Perth SuperSprint Wrap Up

Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport wraps up the fifth round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at Barbagallo Raceway. Alex Rullo and first time Supercar driver Matt Brabham finish the weekend on a positive note.

23 year old Matt Brabham, son of Geoff Brabham and grandson of Sir Jack Brabham former three time world F1 Champion accepted a last minute call from LDM in hopes he would fill the seat of the #3 entry.

Never having driven a Supercar before Brabham acknowledged the challenge to race this weekend with LDM’s major sponsor Repair Management Australia backing the new comer with full support.

“When Phil (Munday) rang to see if I was interested it was obviously from way left field, but exciting at the same time. Phil has a track record of supporting young drivers in the sport,” Said Brabham.

Even though it was Brabhams first time in a supercar if was not his first time racing against some of the other drivers down pit lane.

“Racing against some of the other guys before hand, it was great to get back behind the wheel and mix it with them again.”

16 year old Alex Rullo the home town hero here in Perth started his weekend with a stricking new Livery backed by Strike Drilling.

Throughout the weekend Rullo showed pace and consistency along with determination to keep out of trouble and improve his level of driving even further.

Qualifying saw Rullo start the race on Sunday from position 23, unfortunately for race 8 he tangled with Craig Lowndes on lap 8 and received a 15 second penalty.

Faced with a lock up later in the race, which sent him into the sand trap Rullo came back strong finishing position 25 for the day.
